We, the Vietnamese Americans, greatly appreciate you for signing the House Bill 1537 to teach high school students about AAPI. As a former of the Republic of Vietnam, we all resettled in the United State either by evacuating in April in 1975 or as refugees escaping the communist regime after the war and legally accepted to live here, or as former ARVN Officers migrating via the Humanitarian Orderly Departure Program; we would like to make sure the information that will be printed in the future textbook shall reflect the truth about us:
1. We were citizens of the Republic of Vietnam and were victims of communism.
2. Only the Freedom and Heritage flag (yellow flag with three red stripes) will represent us – not the bloody red with a star one that the communist Vietnamese currently uses.
