In a rematch of the 2021 U.S. Open, Novak Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev in a hard-fought, straight-set match, by scores of 3 sets to one. The scores were 6-3, 7-6, 6-4. Last time the two met here in the finals, Medvedev won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4

While Medvedev deprived Djokovic in 2021 from winning a rare calendar year Grand Slam, meaning winning all four major events of the year, that wasn’t the case this year. Djokovic won the first two this year, the Australian and the French Opens, bringing his record total to 23 majors, but he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the finals of this year’s Wimbledon championship in London. Alcaraz lost to Medvedev in the semi-finals of this year’s US Open on Friday, setting up this rematch.
