The Philippine coastguard said it has removed a floating barrier installed by China at the contested Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea on September 25, 2023. The “special operation” came after Philippine authorities spotted Chinese vessels setting up the 300-metre (980ft) barrier on September 22. Manila said the barrier prevented Filipino fishermen from entering the area to earn a living.
