The United States Under Secretary of the Navy is the second-highest ranking civilian in the Department of the Navy. They serve as the principal assistant to the Secretary of the Navy.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the management of the Department of the Navy’s budget
- Ensure the health and well-being of Navy, Marine Corps, civilian, and family personnel
- Act as the Secretary of the Navy when the Secretary’s position is vacant
- Oversee the Department of the Navy’s affairs, including acquisition, finance, personnel, and research and development
- Oversee intelligence activities, special access programs, and sensitive activities
Relationship to the Secretary of the Navy
The Under Secretary of the Navy reports to the Secretary of the Navy. The Secretary of the Navy has the authority to assign duties to the Under Secretary.
