What to know about the Iran war today:
- Iran launched its first missile and drone attack on the United Arab Emirates since a ceasefire with the U.S. took effect on April 8, and it fired two drones at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, UAE authorities said Monday.
- The U.S. military said two commercial vessels safely transited the key waterway Monday under the Project Freedom initiative announced by President Trump. Iran fired missiles at ships being protected during the operation, and Mr. Trump said U.S. forces destroyed seven Iranian small boats for trying to interfere.
- The Iranian regime says it received a U.S. response to its latest 14-point peace proposal, which it says is aimed at ending the war, not extending the current ceasefire. Mr. Trump said over the weekend that he’d likely reject the Iranian proposal, as “they have not paid a big enough price.”

2 U.S. Navy destroyers transit Strait of Hormuz after dodging Iranian onslaught
Two U.S. Navy destroyers transited the Strait of Hormuz and entered the Persian Gulf after navigating an Iranian barrage, according to defense officials who spoke to CBS News under condition of anonymity to discuss national security matters.
The USS Truxtun and USS Mason, supported by Apache helicopters and other aircraft, faced a series of coordinated threats during the passage, the defense officials said. Iran launched small boats, missiles and drones against them in what officials described as a sustained barrage.
Despite the intensity of the attacks, neither U.S. vessel was struck.
Military officials said that defensive measures, bolstered by air support, successfully intercepted or deterred each incoming threat. They added that no projectiles that were launched reached the ships.

Saudi Arabia calls on U.S. and Iran to de-escalate amid fragile ceasefire
Saudi Arabia called to de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East after Iran and the United States traded fire, rattling a fragile ceasefire.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s concern regarding the current military escalation in the region, and calls for the need to de-escalate,” the foreign ministry said in a statement posted on X.
The ministry condemned the Iranian targeting of civilian and economic facilities in the United Arab Emirates and said it supported “diplomatic efforts to reach a political solution” in the war.
Earlier Monday, the UAE government said its tanker was targeted by two Iranian drones in the Strait of Hormuz. Nobody was injured in the attack.
