US launches defensive strikes against Iran, intercepts multiple threatening drones: officials

U.S. forces shot down four Iranian attack drones in the Strait of Hormuz and struck a launch site in Bandar Abbas in what officials described as a defensive operation to maintain the ceasefire.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • U.S. officials on Wednesday said American forces launched additional “self-defense” strikes against Tehran, intercepting four Iranian attack drones near the Strait of Hormuz and striking a nearby drone control station to prevent a fifth launch.
  • President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he was “not satisfied” with Iran’s negotiating posture, accusing Tehran of trying to “outwait” him on denuclearization talks.
  • Speaking to PBS News on Wednesday, the president said Iran would not receive sanctions relief in exchange for giving up its highly enriched uranium, as Washington and Tehran continue negotiations aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East.
  • Trump said Wednesday that no country would be allowed to control the Strait of Hormuz, warning that U.S. forces are prepared to respond if any side attempts to dominate the critical international waterway.
  • Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said diplomacy remains possible, but Tehran continues to signal distrust as key issues.

U.S. forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that posed a threat in the Strait of Hormuz, two U.S. officials tell Fox News.

U.S. forces struck an Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas that was about to launch a fifth drone, the officials said.

“Today, U.S. Central Command forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that posed a threat around the Strait of Hormuz,” the official told Fox News. “U.S. forces also struck an Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas that was about to launch a fifth drone. These actions were measured, purely defensive, and intended to maintain the ceasefire.”

Reuters was first to report on the new strikes.

Fox News’ Liz Friden contributed to this report.
