Political commentator Dick Morris said Saturday that Democrats are putting themselves at risk politically by opposing President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement policies, pointing to polling that shows broad public support for deportations and border security measures.
Speaking on Newsmax’s "Saturday Report," Morris cited a recent Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll that found strong backing for Trump’s approach to immigration, including efforts to deport people who are in the country illegally.
"I think if you can look at one policy where the Democrats have really screwed it up, it’s their opposition to ICE and their opposition to deportations," Morris said.
The poll found that roughly 80% of respondents support Trump’s immigration policies, underscoring the issue’s continued importance as Republicans and Democrats prepare for the 2026 midterm elections.
Immigration has remained one of Trump’s strongest political issues since returning to office.
The administration has expanded deportation efforts and increased immigration enforcement operations through U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.
Morris argued that public opinion is overwhelmingly on the side of the administration’s policies.
"The public overwhelmingly supports that," he said.
He contended that Democrat opposition is being driven more by pressure from activists and protest groups than by the broader electorate.
"And the only reason the Democrats are so invested in it is because their own constituency is demanding it, and they have to catch up with their demonstrators and with their protesters," Morris said.
