A South Korean specialist working at a foreign-invested company in northern Vietnam has won more than VND102.8 billion (US$3.9 million) on Vietnam’s Power 6/55 lottery, the largest prize a foreigner has ever taken in the country.
State lottery company Vietlott handed the Jackpot 1 prize to the winner, identified only as K.S.H, on July 21.
K.S.H, who works for a company in Bac Ninh Province, buys lottery tickets about twice a week, 20 to 30 at a time, and up to 50 when the jackpot climbs. He found Vietnam’s computerized lottery about five years ago and stuck with it because it played much like the games he knew back in South Korea.
His numbers, 09-17-20-33-41-42, bought the ticket at an outlet on Nguyen Dang Dao Street in Bac Ninh, came up in the July 11 draw, which had accumulated for about a month and a half.
Vietlott puts the odds of winning Jackpot 1 at roughly 1 in 28.9 million.
After VND10.28 billion in personal income tax, he takes home more than VND92.5 billion. He gave VND1.5 billion to charity through the Tam Tai Viet social fund.
K.S.H is the fourth foreigner to win on Vietlott’s Mega 6/45 or Power 6/55 games. Before him, two South Koreans and a Chinese national won. The previous foreign record was VND32.6 billion ($1.24 million), taken by one of the Koreans, in Ho Chi Minh City in mid-2025.
