President Trump and Republicans are celebrating a major primary-night victory after Trump-backed Rep. Byron Donald’s secured the Republican nomination for Florida governor, while several other key GOP candidates advanced toward November.

• One of the biggest surprises came in Florida’s Democratic Senate primary, where socialist candidate Angie Nixon defeated establishment-backed Alex Vindman despite being dramatically outspent. Nixon now advances to face Republican Sen. Ashley Moody.

• Vindman’s defeat represents a major setback for a longtime Trump opponent. His campaign reportedly spent millions and received establishment Democratic support, while Nixon ran with significantly fewer resources.

• The results also highlight the growing influence of democratic socialist candidates and organizations inside Democratic politics. Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna is raising questions about where some socialist political organizations and activist movements receive their financial backing.

• Luna is specifically drawing attention to billionaire Neville Roy Singham and allegations surrounding his financial support for left-wing organizations and protest movements. The larger question is whether wealthy donors are quietly financing supposedly grassroots socialist activism.

• Meanwhile, Democratic Congressman Jimmy Gomez is facing scrutiny involving allegations surrounding an extramarital relationship.

• Overseas, Spain continues dealing with a serious migration crisis around Ceuta, where reports describe overwhelmed authorities, growing homeless encampments, public-health concerns and allegations of increased sexual violence.
