“For the Artemis generation, this is for you.”
NASA Announcement:
We’re in a golden era of human exploration, discovery, and innovation in space – and Artemis I is the latest shining example.
For more than a decade, we have been gazing up at the Moon, knowing our work soon would return humanity to the lunar surface and prepare us for future giant leaps. And early this morning, that journey took flight from Launch Pad 39B at Kennedy Space Center. Artemis I roared to life and began soaring to the Moon.
Of course, we must remember this is a flight test. Over the next 25 days, we are assuming more risk with the Artemis I uncrewed mission, intentionally stressing our systems in the rigors of deep space, to make sure they are as safe as possible before we fly astronauts on future Artemis missions.
Artemis is the culmination of decades of vision, grit, and perseverance. These efforts took place at NASA centers across the country and around the world with our international partners.
