President Donald Trump on Tuesday defended U.S. strikes against Iran, saying they were a direct response to the downing of the U.S. Army Apache helicopter.

Speaking with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl as U.S. Central Command announced retaliatory strikes against Iran, Trump said, "I think it’s very important to respond. They shot down a helicopter, and we are responding as we speak."

Trump said the strikes were a direct response to Iran’s actions.

"This is a response to what they did they did with our helicopter last night, and I believe the response should be very strong, very powerful, and that’s what this one is," Trump added.

US completes strikes on Iranian targets after helicopter downed, CENTCOM says

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said late Tuesday that American forces have completed strikes against Iranian targets ordered in response to the downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter.

According to CENTCOM, U.S. Air Force and Navy fighter jets struck Iranian air defense systems, ground control stations and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz using precision-guided munitions.

"The operation was a proportional response to recent attacks on U.S. forces and international commercial ships transiting regional waters," CENTCOM wrote on X. "U.S. forces remain vigilant and postured to defend against unjustified Iranian aggression."

Hơn 100 con chim công hoang dã tràn xuống đường phố Punta Marina phá phách, phóng uế và gây ồn ào, khiến cuộc sống của khoảng 1.000 cư dân bị đảo lộn.

Federico Bruni đang ngồi trên ghế đá ăn bánh mì, một con công bước tới nhặt vụn bánh. Từ doanh trại quân đội bỏ hoang bên kia đường, những tiếng chim kêu chói tai liên tục phát ra. "Đó là tiếng gọi bạn tình của những con đực giữa mùa giao phối", anh Bruni nói.

Punta Marina, thị trấn ven biển thuộc vùng Emilia-Romagna đang là nơi trú ngụ của hơn 100 con chim công. Đàn chim biến các khu vườn bỏ hoang thành nơi trú ngụ, đậu trên mái nhà và hàng rào. Chúng tràn xuống đường phố, dùng mỏ gõ vào cửa kính ôtô vì thấy bóng mình phản chiếu. Nhiều con nhảy qua cổng chung cư và phóng uế trên bậc thềm.

Sự xuất hiện của đàn chim khiến 1.000 cư dân tại đây chia rẽ. Với nhóm phản đối, đàn chim gây ra nhiều rắc rối. Francesco, một cư dân, cho biết: "Chúng quá đông, thường xuyên nhảy lên ban công nhà tôi để lại phân. Tệ nhất là tiếng kêu vào mùa giao phối".

Bà Rosanna Golfarelli, chủ tiệm bánh ngọt địa phương, cho biết chim mổ vào bóng phản chiếu làm hư hỏng xe cộ. Phân chim vương vãi trên vỉa hè gây nguy hiểm cho người đi bộ và làm ách tắc giao thông.

Ông Claudio Ianiero, chồng bà Golfarelli, nói: "Công rất đẹp, nhưng số lượng quá nhiều. Chúng làm mọi thứ rối tung và mổ bất cứ thứ gì tìm thấy". Ông cho biết thêm tiếng kêu ban đêm khiến người dân mất ngủ.

Tuy nhiên, một số cư dân như Federico Bruni xem chim công là một phần của thị trấn. "Không khác gì mèo hay chim bồ câu, chúng đã trở thành một phần cảnh quan", anh nói. Tại khoảng sân gần tiệm bánh ngọt, một con công mang tên "Pirilampo" đã trở thành nguyên mẫu để làm ra loại bánh quy hình chim xòe đuôi bán cho du khách.

Bà Ilaria Sansavini, chủ cửa hàng mì ống, kể về nguồn gốc đàn chim: "Hơn 20 năm trước, một con công đực bị bỏ lại sau khi chủ qua đời đã gặp một con cái trong doanh trại cũ. Chúng giao phối và sinh sôi từ đó".

Ban đầu, đàn chim sống trong rừng thông phía sau thị trấn. Quần thể ước tính có 10 con vào năm 2018. Khi đại dịch bùng phát năm 2020, đường phố vắng người, đàn công dạo chơi và được người dân cho ăn. Đến nay, số lượng lên khoảng 120 con. Nhà điểu học Rosario Balestrieri nhận định rừng thông là môi trường lý tưởng, nhưng việc người dân cung cấp thức ăn đã thúc đẩy đàn chim tăng trưởng.

Tổ chức bảo vệ động vật Clama đã làm trung gian giải quyết xung đột bằng cách phát tờ rơi và cắm biển cảnh báo. "Việc cho chim ăn khiến chúng phụ thuộc vào con người. Hành vi này có thể bị xử phạt", Cristina Franzoni, tình nguyện viên Clama, cho biết.

Chính quyền thành phố Ravenna hiện đã triển khai lực lượng dọn dẹp đường phố và chuẩn bị thống kê số lượng.

Hiện thị trấn vẫn tồn tại hai luồng ý kiến: một nửa muốn kiểm soát mạnh tay đàn chim để ổn định cuộc sống, nửa còn lại muốn biến đây thành điểm đến du lịch sinh thái độc đáo.

SACRAMENTO—Republican Steve Hilton secured enough votes in the race for California governor to advance to the general election in November, setting up a partisan battle with Democrat Xavier Becerra.

The Associated Press called Hilton’s advancement on June 9, a week after the primaries. Hilton held 24.9 percent to Becerra’s 27.9 percent, with 88 percent of the votes counted.

Hilton goes into the general election as the clear underdog, with the nonpartisan Cook Political Report ranking the post as solidly Democratic.

The former Fox News host ran on making California “Golden Again” by eliminating state income taxes for the first $100,000 earned, reducing regulatory burdens, expanding single family home development, and lowering gas prices by boosting oil production statewide.

His Hungarian parents fled communism and started a new life in the United Kingdom, where Hilton was raised. He became a dual U.S.-UK citizen in 2021.

He challenged the state’s bureaucracy and called for increased government efficiency and fiscal discipline. The state’s nonpartisan Legislative Analyst’s Office estimates budget shortfalls of $35 billion annually in the coming years.

Early results showed Hilton leading the pack, but Becerra garnered a larger share of the vote-by-mail ballots that took longer to count.

State law allows 37 days between Election Day and certification, which is due July 10.

The delay was described by Hilton as “another Democrat fiasco” and called for full transparency during the canvassing period.

He topped billionaire Democrat Tom Steyer by just over 2 percent, receiving about 200,000 more votes than the third place finisher.

Becerra—former secretary of Health and Human Services, U.S. representative, and state attorney general—finished in first place, after polling in the lead consistently after former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) dropped out of the race following sexual misconduct allegations.

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco tallied 10.1 percent, former Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) received 4.4 percent, and San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan earned 3.7 percent.

Southwest Airlines is getting ready to switch on high-speed Starlink inflight connectivity.
